Kwik Sew 3658 - A Miracle In Pattern Drafting .

My sewing output is much greater than my sewing blogging as I made this top early this month .
I was so impressed by this pattern I wanted to include a few pictures showing how it was made .

This is the two front pieces placed right sides together and stitched at the top and along the middle .

The fronts are ` opened up ` .

This creates a self front facing which is basted down .

The back is then stitched to the front . After this all that has to be done is sew the sleeves in the flat and then sew up the side seams and do the hems. So quick and easy and just amazing  ! Mind you I have no drafting skills so I might be easily impressed .

The close ups of the front and back neck line also show up my fabric well - a white waffly knit . It was only $1.00 from the op shop but it was covered with lots of little black dots which I did not realise until I had taken the fabric home. Luckily they washed out with a bit of that wonder pink napisan .
I am overall happy with the top but the neck line is a bit floppy and the shoulders too wide. Otherwise it really is a little miracle in pattern drafting.  I know Kwik Sew is not so popular or trendy so I do appreciate that they have reliable drafting and excellent instructions which is what really counts in the end.
Happy Sewing Janine.

  1. Oh I'm impressed ... I really like clever drafting and the top looks terrific on. Shame if it's a bit big. I like the fabric too. I have recently bought some Kwik Sew and hope to get to them quickly. It's too bad more 'indie' 'pattern makers' don't draft something interesting instead of raglan and normal t-shirts and camisoles. No matter how well it's drafted it's not very clever but this is clever. Sorry for the tangental rant.

    1. Not at all a rant ! I have never really boarded the indie pattern train because there have been no styles that have been that unique to justify the extra costs, I don't need pretty packaging and hand holding in simple sewing.

  2. I have this pattern so thank you for making it up and blogging about it. I've had it in reserve for a little black dress. Yes, KWIK SEW does run large in the shoulders.

  5. I love this top - the pattern is in my stash as well. Your top looks lovely, and suits you, and will be very wearable in everyday life, which in my book trumps trendy any day. Looking at the photos on the envelope, it looks as though the shoulders are extended, but really you could do another armhole shape there, I should think, if you make this again.

  6. I made this top today and it is easy but it was too large in the shoulder and bust line. I'm going to remake another one tomorrow. I do like the pattern, not sure why it fit large. Back to the drafting board for me. Thanks for your blog post, much appreciated.
